    Description

American Bank Note Company (ABNC) private security printer Archive Series set of engraved vignettes from the year 1989.
For six years beginning in 1987, the ABNC produced a set of 12 sheets containing engravings from their archives.  Most of these items (portraits, vignettes, numerals and the like) were used on old banknotes, stock certificates, postage and revenue stamps, and other security and non-security documents in the 19th and 20th Centuries.
The engravings are thematically grouped around a theme that defines each of the 12 sheets in the year set.  For 1989, the themes were:
    1 - United States Presidents
    2 - The Iron Horse
    3 - Allegories of Finance
    4 - The Family
    5 - At Sea Side
    6 - Winged Majesty
    7 - Tall Ships
    8 - Conquering the Sky
    9 - The Animal Kingdom
10 - Down in the Mines
    11 - Rural America
12 - The Price of Freedom
Collectors of currency and negotiable paper will recognize many of the vignette as having been used on U.S. and foreign banknotes and/or stocks, bonds, and other financial instruments.  For example, the well-known "Progress" vignette appears on the sheet featuring
    Allegories of Finance
.  Several stamp-related engravings are also included.
The sheets measure approx. 8.5" w by 11 5/16" h.  An information page accompanies each Archive sheet, providing historical information on each image, including the engraver of the original plate, year produced, and items on which the image was used.
The Archive Series for 1989 is accompanied by a deep blue hard-sided portfolio.  One minor flaw is evident ... a small tear on one side of the thick paper enclosure, as seen in the final image.
The individual sheets and their information pages are enclosed inside the portfolio.  The sheets are in mint condition.  The backside of the final sheet has a small disturbance to the paper at the top, with no discernible effect on the appearance from the front.  (See close-up in next-to-last image.)
