    Description

    BEAUTIFUL & LARGE ANTIQUE ZUNI "SHALAKO & MUDHEAD - CIRCA 1960's - 18" H X 9" W -
You are bidding on a spectacular older Zuni Shalako accompanied by a Mudhead. These dolls were originally created to portray the characters for Zuni children to learn the various ceremonies and dances of their culture. What makes this an incredible item is the fact that these two figures actually do dance together in the actual yearly ceremony. The Shalako is beyond ornate with amazing plumage, a real fabric bodice with fine yarn and painted elements. The Mudhead in contrast is simple and has a wool felt shawl and loincloth shirt. Truly one of the finest Shalako figures I have ever encountered. These dolls were purchased from Pat Read in the late 1960's; see my last two listing photos for a postcard taken at one of his many shops. He was a third generation Trader from Lawrence, Kansas. I am 100% sure the new owner will be impressed when this item joins their collection. Good luck!
Many of the artifacts I have posted on E-Bay were purchased around 40 - 45 years ago, but most are much older.
    Good luck to my winner.
Be sure to check my other listings... as I will soon be posting a number of other Native American jewelry items as well as collectables in the coming weeks.
