  • Condition: This is a very nice General Radio GR-1551C sound meter from a collector's estate. It looks relatively unused. This is the latest General Radio model prior to their contemporary light gray unit. The interals are immaculate: the battery compartment is clean and show no signs that batteries were ever used. The active preamp is mounted on vibration absorbing mounts (to reduce microphonics). The power supply is attached to the lower body and replaces the need for batteries. This powers up, the meter responds and it appears to be ready for service evaluation and thus reuse. We recommend using a buck-boost transformer because this is still a 115VAC unit.

    Description

    For Sale:
    This is an excellent General Radio GR-1551C sound meter from a collector's estate.  It is a late model from recent military surplus which was used by the U.S Marine Corps, probably for Voice of America or institutional recording.  It looks extremely nice.
    The battery compartment is clean and show no signs that batteries were ever used.  The active pre-amp is mounted on vibration absorbing mounts (to reduce microphonics).  The power supply unit attached on the bottom of the meter replaces the needs for a battery compliment and explains why the interior is so clean.   We are providing all the information we have on CD.  The manual we have is for the GR-1551B version which seems similar and should be enough to go on.  The C version manuals are occasionally for sale on the web.  The internal amplifier components are identified by a decal on the back of the amplifier cover.
    Condition
    :  Found as shown and tested for powering up & minimal response.  We do not know the last time this was used nor the last time it was powered up.  Sold strictly AS IS and we do not want returns.   Buyer should have a sound background.  All switches should be cleaned and the electrolytics examined.  A buck-boost transformer should be used to ensure 115 VAC is applied.
