    Description

This Hopi Carved Priest Killer Kachina Doll from Cottonwood by Tom Collateta stands at 16 inches tall and is a true piece of art. Handmade with precision, this doll represents the Native American culture of the US and specifically, the Hopi Nation. Its provenance is not available, but it is certain that it is a unique addition to any collection of dolls and Kachinas. This is a rare carving due to “Yowe” having a removable mask. The only flaw I see is the 4th digit on his right hand is missing the last knuckle,, not terribly noticeable, (see pictures). This carving
comes with a removable helmet/mask which is very rare.
This carving is also known as "Yowe" The Priest Killer. In the "1680's" during the Great Pueblo Revolt in the village of Shungopavi Yowe captured and beheaded a Priest. This was not done due to religious reasons but the Priest had laid claim to Yowe's girlfriend .
This came from a lifelong private collection and we will be posting many more!
