    Description

Wow! Proudly presented today is this extraordinary Hopi Kachina doll, depicting the seldom seen Mastop. This Kachina, which only appears on Third Mesa, is associated with the first ceremony of the Kachina calendar, the Soyal. Coming into the village from the northwest, in groups, they beat any dogs they encounter in the village (with a stick they carry for that exact purpose), and have simulated intercourse with all the women, regardless of age, who are among the spectators in the dance plaza. This is a VERY important fertility rite, associated with the winter equinox. Still, it is a very unusual Kachina. This wonderful example, standing 11 inches tall, is by the talented and respected Martin Dallas. i have been close friends with Martin for many years, and it seems that every doll he carves is better than the one before. Martin's work is always strong and clean, very well-made and very traditional. This fine example will look great in your Kachina doll collection. Buy with confidence, for as you all know, if the buyer is unsatisfied for ANY reason, i will immediately return the full purchase price. He’s a beautiful doll with an interesting story. Many Thanks for your kind consideration, and as always, Best Regards, Rich
