Hopi Kachina Doll - The Hemis Mana Kachina by Jacob Cook - Beautiful!

It is a delight to present this beautiful Kachina Sculpture, depicting the Hemis Mana Kachina. She's 10 inches tall, and is carved by the young and talented Jacob Cook, an artist i have had the pleasure of working with for several years. On dolls this size, Jacob enjoys painting an additional figure on the Kachina's torso, kind of like a sub-text, giving the figure a narrative depth. Here, he has  (fittingly) painted a Hemis Kachina, attending a ceremonial dance. By special arrangement, he has carved four of these intricate dolls for me. These sculptures have always been popular, and in this new series he has captured a dignity and serenity and even some drama, with the figural painting. Jacob carves traditionally, by hand, and never uses motorized tools (he carves with an Imperial pocket knife, made in Ireland).
