Presented today is this beautiful Old Style Hopi Kachina doll, depicting Hoho Mana, the Zuni Maiden Kachina. She is the consort of the Sio Hemis Kachina, though
occasionally
she is seen with the Hemis, during the Home Dance. Kachina. Standing 7 and a half inches tall, she is carved by the young and very talented Theron Talashoma. I have had the immense pleasure of working with this young man for the past several years. He was introduced to me by Phillip Shelton, and is his nephew. Theron is fascinated with the Old Style figures, and he brings an incredible “wildness” to his Kachina dolls, as if this were a figure which might have been discovered in some ancient, sacred cave. His work is incredibly fresh and sincere, and I am hoping to get his name and talent out there.
