    Description

This unique, original, handcarved and handpainted wood carving is by Neil David Sr.  It is not a reproduction of any kind.
The delightful carving by the noted Hopi artist and author shows a Hopi Koshari (Koyala) kneeling down to cuddle a barking puppy that wandered into the ceremony, and was lovingly scooped up by the Koshari.  The Koshari impersonator plays an important role in the ceremony, yet he knelt down to gather up the inquisitive puppy, and clearly delights in holding him close.  Might this be a self-portrait ?  Unique, expressive, and spontaneous, the sweet moment in time is captured with humanity, kindness, and humor in a simple composition, so characteristic of the creative genius of Neil David.
The carving is approximately 8 inches tall.  Signed by Neil David Sr.
