    Description

    NATIVE AMERICAN
WHITE OGRE KACHINA BY JEROME NEQUATEWA
Half Hopi, half Zuni Jerome Nequatewa was raised with the knowledge of the culture and customs of both the Hopi and the Zuni.  Jerome was taught to carve by his father, the late Harold Nequatewa.  Jerome’s kachinas are delicately carved, showing attention to movement and detail.
The White Ogre (Wiharu) is a disciplinarian who appear around the time of the Powamuya Ceremony.  The purpose of these Katsinam is to reinforce the Hopi way of life to the children of the Pueblo.
Jerome yields to the natural shape of cottonwood root in order to create this wonderfully carved White Ogre Kachina.  This marvelous carving would be a great addition to your kachina or Native American art collection.
