Description
TWO empty Paul Jones Gin bottles, from 1955BONUS! Paul Jones Blended Whiskey 1/2 pt
So THREE Bottles in all from the '50's!
But wait...
These bottles were what used to be called a "NEW YORK Sample"
It was sent by the producing plant, probably in either Relay or Dundalk, MD to Then Seagram's HQ in New York City to show the executives and sales people what the finished package would look like.
At the time. BATF, regulations were such that REAL samples, even empty bottles were strictly regulated (if a bootlegger could get ahold of real bottles/ labels etc. then....) And shipping just ONE FULL bottle from Maryland to NY could violate multiple state laws and/or require paying multiple state excise taxes.
By BATF edict, all such samples had to be obvious and NOT refillable. Take a close look at the back of the bottle... Yes that is a hole drilled in the glass to make sure the bottle cannot be used for booze which was not "TAX PAID."
Remember that, at the time, the Federal excise tax on liquor was 10X more than this bottle cost to produce!
SO here, for you, is a relatively inexpensive, while tangible, history lesson
