Hybrid large die proof on salesman or printer presentation album page (216 X 147mm) with original binding strip at left.  Large die proofs of Scott 38 are listed but not priced (very rare as Siegel’s has only offered two, the larger of those only 57 X 55 mm) selling for 00 + 15% buyer’s commission (lot 1044, sale 930).  This item most likely came from a book like the one offered in Siegel’s sale 1048 (lot 104, realized ,500 + 15% buyer’s commission and contained 116 proofs, few of which would rival the rarity of this 38P1 variety).
Super fresh and bright, an exceptionally rare item for the proof collector or Scott 38/46 1860/1875 specialist.  A very nice and very scarce essay/proof for any serious high quality proof collection.
