This is a signed Kachina by Gene Lewis, Pueblo Tribe Native American New Mexico. This is a authentic carving approximately 17"" tall x 5" x 7". It is dated 1981. This is the Sun God, Tawa. It is feathers with yarn, faux fur and leather. Hand carved and hand painted. Traditional design. Small feather in one hand and squash blossom rattle in the other. The Tewa people are a group of Pueblo tribes belonging to the Tanoan linguistic family. They historically made their homes on or near the Rio Grande north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Their name means “moccasins.” A former group of Pueblo tribes of New Mexico, whose name has been adopted for the family designation (see Tanoan Family).
