    Description

Presented tonight is this very impressive Hopi Kachina doll depicting Toho, the Mountain Lion Kachina. He appears in the Pachavu Ceremony as a guard, and in this guise is regarded as an Angry Kachina. He also appears in the Mixed Dances, where he leads a procession of Deer and Antelope Kachinas, and carries a ceremonial staff adorned with eagle feathers and horsehair. This is the version that is shown in this wonderful example.  He is very impressively expressed here by Philbert Polyestewa, of Moencopi, a talented carver, who is quickly making a name for himself. This lovely doll stands 6 and a half inches tall, and is beautifully carved from Cottonwood root. The intricacy of the carving is remarkable. The horse-hair skirt and swaying fox skin are very convincingly expressed, and the ceremonial staff is a work of art all by itself.  It would be a great addition to any Kachina doll collection, created by a recognized carver and an always popular subject.  Buy with confidence, because as you all know, if the buyer is unsatisfied for ANY reason, i will immediately return the full purchase price. Every collection needs a Mountain Lion Kachina; now's your chance to acquire a beautiful one! Many Thanks for your kind consideration, and congratulations in advance to the lucky buyer! Best Regards, Rich
