    Description

Proudly presented today is this spectacular Hopi Kachina doll, depicting a Koyemsi Mudhead carrying a Tuhavi Kachina. This is a representation of a Hopi legend which undoubtedly predates the Kachina Religion itself. When the ancient city of Palatkwapi (the Red City), was destroyed by flood, and the residents fled, a blind man and a crippled man were left behind. The blind man carried the crippled man, who was able to shoot a bow and arrow. By carefully cooperating, the blind man could come close enough to game for the crippled man to shoot it. In this way, the 2 survived and finally caught up to their people. This is one of the most important and cherished legends in Hopi mythology. And Kachina dolls depicting this legend are among the most rare and collectable types. One reason is that they are so difficult to carve, convincingly. This magnificent example, standing 8 and a half inches tall, is beautifully carved by Philbert Polyestewa, a highly respected carver from Moencopi. Here we see the figures beautifully and naturalistically carved, but what really shines through is the sensitivity and humanity of the figures. The Tuhavi rests a hand on the Mudhead's shoulder, staring intently ahead, being the eyes for the two partners. The Mudhead trudges forward, gently gripping the Tuhavi's legs. This small but beautiful work of art would look great in any Kachina doll collection, and will truly will give its owner years of pleasure. You can buy with complete confidence, for as you all know, if the buyer is unsatisfied for ANY reason i will immediately return the full purchase price, and that includes the return shipping. This piece would stand out in the finest Kachina doll collection on earth. Shouldn't it be in YOURS? Many Thanks for your kind consideration. and sincere CONGRATULATIONS in advance to the very lucky buyer. Best Regards Always, Rich
