    Description

Long Hair Kachina by Hopi carver Bernie Talus. Bernie carved for a Scottsdale Arizona souvenir shop in the 70s. I have listed several of his pieces please take a look.
Bernie usually signed his pieces on the bottom of the foot. Some of the Kachinas (usually once that had to balance ) were mounted on very thin pieces of wood about 4 inches of diameter. That piece of wood would have been signed on the bottom. That piece of wood is no longer attached (and I don’t have it).
You can see the residual glue on the base of the feet.
In Hopi mythology, Angak or Angak'china is a male Hopi kachina spirit, represented by spirit dancers and a corresponding kachina doll figure, known to non-hopis as Longhair or Long Hair. Angak is originally from the Zuni Pueblo.
The goal of the Angak spirit is to bring rain and flowers to the Hopi villages.
