    LOT OF 2 VERY NICE TRADITIONAL CRADLE DOLLS KACHINAS BY MASTER CARVER
    VINCENT SECKLETSTEWA
    From left to right:
    Ai (racer kachina, approx. 7"), Poli (no English
    equivalent, approx. 8"
    )
    Martin Dallas Jr, a well known Hopi carver from Moencopi  said that Cradle Kachinas are given in 3 separate parts of
    an infant's life. The first style is very simplified, small and flat. It is given to the baby soon after its birth. The
    second style, given after a few months, is more complex, with the head and arms carved in bas relief. The third
    style, given when the baby is almost a toddler, is almost fully formed, but still having a flat back. This process mimics
    the baby's own growth and evolution. i have seen these different types, but this was the first time the reason behind
    was explained to me.
    ,
    These traditional kachinas are carved, painted and signed by famous carver Vincent Seckletstewa
    with name of kachina, date, and Vincent's personal tribal symbol.
    Vincent carved fine Kachinas with love in the traditional Hopi way until he passed away
    a couple of years ago.
